Galoppatoio, a winning formula with young athletes and polo
The main event of the CSIO in Piazza di Siena features a set of national competitions, with a program mainly targeted to young riders who, with their horses and ponies, represent the new generation of equestrianism in Italy. The arena at the Villa Borghese Galoppatoio is just a few metres away from Piazza di Siena, surrounded by large, freely accessible grandstands and a lively shopping village.
The air is filled with enthusiasm and passion. The trip to Rome for the Piazza di Siena equestrian competition is the most eagerly-awaited event of the year for all young riders, their coaches and families.
The competitions follow one after the other at full speed from the early hours of the morning until dusk, when the arena is cleared and becomes the stage for the Polo tournament. With the Italia Polo Challenge circuit, this spectacular discipline has been part of the Piazza di Siena program since 2016 and its success is growing year after year. The amazing parade of polo players on horseback through the Rome city centre (from Ara Pacis to Piazza di Spagna along Via Condotti) has become the eagerly-awaited prologue to the event at Villa Borghese. Two matches will be played each evening from Thursday to Saturday, in a magical setting that will add to the excitement of the fast-paced games under the spotlights.
