Raimondo d'Inzeo: 100 years since his birth
2025 will mark the centenary of the birth of Raimondo d'Inzeo, the most titled rider in the history of the Piazza di Siena international show, unanimously recognised as the best rider in the world in the 1930s/70s.
The CSIO Romae has been named after him, General of the Carabinieri, and his brother Piero, General of the Army, as the Master Fratelli d'Inzeo for the past ten years.
The anniversary will naturally be commemorated during the days of the 2025 CSIO, with special initiatives to keep alive the memory of the great champion.
It was in the Villa Borghese Green Oval, during the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, that the two brothers achieved the feat of standing on the podium to receive the gold medal (Raimondo) and the individual silver medal (Piero) in show jumping.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Raimondo d'Inzeo's birth, the Italian Ministero delle Imprese e del Made in Italy has issued a postage stamp dedicated to the great champion, as part of the "Social Values" series. 250,000 stamps were issued, printed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato; a philatelic folder was also produced containing the stamp, the quatrain, the franked and stamped postcard, the first-day cover, the philatelic card and the illustrated bulletin, all of which are available at the Italian Post Office's philatelic counters.
